Community based family support project.

The FRC programme is Irelands largest family support programme delivering universal services to families in disadvantaged areas across the country based on a life cycle approach.

The aim of the programme is to combat disadvantage and improve the functioning of the family unit. Each works autonomously – working inclusively with individuals, families, communities and statutory and non-statutory agencies.

FRC’s are an integral part of the Local Area Pathways. They provide a wide variety of community supports and programmes in response to the unique needs of their catchment area. This may include education, training, group work, provision of support and information, referrals etc. While the services and supports provided by individual FRC’s may vary, common to all of them is the aim of bringing about positive change in the community by drawing local people together to identify responses to local issues. There are five FRC’s in Wexford.

Geographical Area Taghmon is a rurally located project based in the village of Taghmon and covering the surrounding areas of Horetown, Kilbride, Whitechurch, Forth, Ballymitty, Harperstown, Whitechurch, Kilgarvan and Aughwilliam.

Target Age Groups 5-95

Referrals In general referrals are on a self-referrals basis as participation in all activities and programmes is voluntary. Referrals can be taken from local organisations and agencies for suitable programmes and activities and this happens from time to time.

Eligibility Criteria All programmes and activities are universal services inclusive to all members of the community whilst having a focus on those who are experiencing disadvantage in their lives. There may be eligibility criteria for a very small number of programmes such as BTEI initiative or an age criteria e.g. youth programmes.
