The HSE Substance Misuse Team operates under the Social Inclusion Department of the HSE. In Wexford the Team consists of a Co-ordinator, two Addiction Counsellors and one Liaison Nurse. This team offers counselling and detox services. Team members can also access residential services in the Aisling Centre for those requiring this service. The team manages a Needle Exchange service throughout the county. It liaises closely with the FDYS Community Based Drugs Initiative workers and Family Support Services. Referrals are also made to CAMHS, the Tusla, Child Protection Social Work Department and the Cornmarket Project.

The team will be facilitating the “Open Access” service which will be available on Thursdays in the County Clinic, Grogans Road from 2-6pm in the New Year. This will be a drop-in service that does not require an appointment. The purpose of this service is to provide screening and assessment to family members of those with substance misuse issues. Once the relevant issues are identified, referrals will be made to Family Support Groups etc

Target Age Group There is no official under or upper age limit. However, clients under 18 years of age need parental consent. Those clients under 18 years of age who are referred through the Social Work Dept. also need consent from an adult or their Social Worker who may also be required to attend appointments.

Eligibility Criteria All those referred are offered an appointment during which a standardised assessment and screening process are carried out. The purpose is to determine the clients suitability for the programme or to refer them to more relevant services.

Referrals Self referrals and referrals through GP’s, Social Services, Schools etc.
